Main House at Sculpture by the Lakes, Dorset

Planning permission and building regulations for rear extension

Client Brief: as a well-known local sculptor, the client required additional space to meet clients to discuss and present work. The architectural design vision was to extend the traditional brick-built family home with a contemporary single-story extension. Whilst being contemporary in design, the extension design had to fit seamlessly with the traditional architectural feel of the main house.

Design Solution: a contemporary red-brick built single story extension with floor to ceiling sliding doors in the far corner, opening out to a paved area.

The design included a water feature, connecting the contemporary architectural design to the traditional style of the main house. The water feature was designed to use rain water collected on the roof providing an interesting and eco-friendly design feature to complement the garden design created by the owner.
